Transfer Choice of Major and Application Review

Because SJSU is an impacted campus, eligibility for admission is based on:

  1. Minimum CSU eligibility standards
  2. Location of college where applicant earned the majority of units
  3. Applicant’s choice of major

Change of Major

Apply for a major in which you intend to earn a degree. After admission, your mandatory orientation, advising and registration will be based on your choice of major. Transfers may not apply to the Undeclared major. Change of major is prohibited for the first year of attendance and is by petition only. Change of major is not guaranteed at any time.

“Local” and “non-local” students

SJSU is committed to giving local Santa Clara and Santa Cruz county transfers priority in the admission process.

Local applicants are students who will earn the majority of their transfer units from a Santa Clara or Santa Cruz county college.

Local applicants are guaranteed admission provided they apply by 11:59 PST on November 30, 2009, comply with all posted deadlines and meet CSU eligibility requirements.

CSU-eligible local applicants who are not accommodated in impacted majors will be offered admission to the Undeclared option.

Non-local applicants are students who will earn the majority of their transfer units at a college located outside of Santa Clara or Santa Cruz county.

Admission is offered to non-local applicants based on the overall campus capacity as well as capacity in individual majors.

Out of State and International Applicants

Non-residents of California and international applicants must meet higher minimum standard, regardless of major.

Supplemental Criteria – Impacted Majors

Impacted majors require supplemental criteria from all transfer applicants. See the degree listing for details.

Transfer applicants may be requested to submit additional information and should be prepared to meet all associated deadlines.

All transfer applicants compete for admission to these majors and are assessed and ranked according to grade point average and supplemental course criteria, if applicable.

Have a back-up plan!

Applicants to SJSU’s impacted majors should have a backup plan at an alternative campus that offers the desired major.
