Students often feel much better prepared for college work than they are; the Entry Level Math (ELM) and English Placement Test (EPT) are often a rude awakening.
If you are required to enroll in a remedial writing and/or math course, that means you will be limited in choosing other classes as well. Almost two-thirds of new frosh in the California State University, and at SJSU, must take remedial work and are thus restricted. This remedial work must be completed within two semesters, and we strongly encourage new students to begin remedial classes in the summer before fall classes start if at all possible.
